no manager can go out there and play for the team - these are professional athletes. If they can't get ready to play for 162 games without motivational speeches, they don't belong in the major leagues. Boone is given the players selected by Cashman & his band of computer geeks on whatever budget Hal gives him to work with. Canning the manager isn't going to get better results = he would only be replaced by another who was in sync with the geek squad.
