Good for Cashman. Well, I have little faith in Cashman. He controls who is on the team, and over the past ten years our team has steadily moved away from bat-control hitters to bombers. In todays world of the shift bombing produces a high salary for those who can do it, longer home runs, fewer runs against good pitchers and a total absence of the ability to move base runners. Look at the primary video on the team website over the past few years. You will see that the most common thread is someone hitting a long home run, as if the length means something to the outcome of the game. It does not.

In almost every sport it is true that using all of your strength decreases accuracy. Examples are swinging away with your driver instead of keeping the ball in the fairway, throwing knockout punches instead of boxing, heaving a a Hail Mary pass. It just does not work, particularly in the most accuracy demanding of all games, which would be our game of fractions of an inch.
