Today marks the 25th anniversary of Mickey Mantle's passing. For me one of the saddest days - my first childhood hero. Fell in love with the blue eyed, blond crewcut kid from Oklahoma in 1951 - love at first sight. The biggest thrill was seeing him in person my first trip to The Stadium in '57 with my Dad. Kept a scrap book on everything I could get. Would drag my daughter to OTD so she could see him & Roger. Every time I hear Roy Clark sing Yesterday When I Was Young reminds me of the funeral and tributes to my first hero - I was a six year old at the time so guess that was a long, long time ago but the meories live on along with his legend.
