When will Josh Donaldson become a free agent?

The current contract of Josh Donaldson with the New York Yankees expires at the end of the 2023 season. He has a $6 million mutual option for the 2024 season but will become a free agent if he declines it.


I don't know what a "mutual option" means in Donaldson's case, but with the way he sucked over the last two years, I can't see Donaldson turning it down in trying to make more money than six million next year.

This is the first I've heard of this "mutual option", but it's not a buyout.
