Boone? What does anyone think? I would like to have seen them "go in a different direction" when his contract came up for renewal this Fall.
I thought he made too many poor pitching choice decisions. As in leaving I guy in too long or taking him out too soon. To be sure all managers do that What would we second guess if they didn't? I just think Boone did it way too often. There was one game near the end of the season (don't remember which) where with a lead he brought Chapman in to pitch the 9th with the lead and he proceeded to walk 3 straight and then pitch to Guerrero who promptly parked one to lose the game. I would have pulled Chapman after the second walk but absent that I would have intentionally walked Guerrero and taken my chances with whoever was up next. Forcing the run in would have still maintained the lead.
I also hated him batting Judge 1st or 2nd. I clearly understand the rationale but I bet Judge would have come to the plate some 150 times with runners on than he did. Judge had approximately 1 RBI per AB so he easily could have had 25-30 more ribbys which would have translated into how many more wins? How many of his 62 were solo shots? Some of those would have produced more runs and wins as well although there is an overlap between my last 2 points but I don't think they are the same runs and wins.
