TAMPA — Domingo German could not be found among the pitchers and catchers who reported to George M. Steinbrenner Field on Wednesday, for good reason: The suspended right-hander won’t be part of the Yankees’ spring training at all, a decision made so definitively that he doesn’t even have a locker here.
Instead, German, who has 63 games left to serve in an 81-game sentence he accepted in January for violating baseball’s domestic-violence rules, will continue to work out at the Yankees’ academy in his native Dominican Republic.
“He’s been going to our complex now a few times a week for I think the last three or four weeks,” said Aaron Boone, who added that he recently met with German during a visit to the academy. “(We) feel like he can get the work he needs to get in there, and that’s kind of where we’re at with it right now.”
