The MLB Commissioner’s Office, after meetings Friday with the Players Association, announced it was suspending operations of its spring training camps and that players can return home if they choose.

Those decisions strongly imply MLB’s absence will be measured in months, not weeks.

The league and the union were reacting to uncertainty over when games will be played again and many players’ desire to return home to families as the sport tries to determine how to respond to the coronavirus pandemic.
