NEW YORK -- Barely a week after parting ways with Carlos Beltrán, the Mets found a new manager from within their own ranks. The team is close to finalizing a multiyear deal with Luis Rojas, general manager Brodie Van Wagenen announced Wednesday.
Rojas, 38, served as the Mets’ quality control coach and outfield instructor last season, his first on a big league staff. The son of longtime Major League player and manager Felipe Alou, and the half-brother of former Mets outfielder Moises Alou, Rojas managed in the Mets’ Minor League system at Double-A Binghamton, Class A Advanced St. Lucie and Class A Savannah. He has spent the past 13 years in the Mets' organization.
