Machado and Harper are rolling the dice big time now, by not accepting multi year deals with their present teams and forgoing a few years of their free agent availability for them. Not too many 26 year old superstars make it to free agency anymore. Look at Mike Trout. He took the money and ran with it before he hit free agency, and many others are doing the same. The majority of FA's in the future will be on the other side of 30 years old, which is why I think they have to sign at least one of these "sure thing" players who will still be early in their prime.
