just a thought but I really wonder if when the season is over - Gary will be having surgery on his thumb. He won't complain *just like last year with his injuries) but try gripping the bat or anything without putting any pressure on your thumb. Not making excuses just thinking 'out loud' so to speak. Hitting into to DP's with risp kills potential rallies. That's water over the dam and tonight is another game - let's start playing the Yankee way.
As for CC - I know Aaron Boone is trying to manage the rotation & bull pen according to the schedule (look what happened to the Rays last night after over usage over the weekend.) Sabathia is ok but might be better suited at this stage to bull pen/opener status - age & years of usage are catching up with his durability. Really hope Cash can get at least one solid starter by the 31st or we could be in trouble during the stretch drive & playoffs.
