February 5, 1921:

On this day, back in 1921, the New York Yankees purchase 10 acres of land on the North Bank of the Harlem River that would soon become Yankee Stadium! This area was selected due to its "excellent transport facilities" in the area and was built to fit 75,000 seats.

It was opened 2 years later in 1923...
