As of now, the Yankees between Marcus Stroman, trades to get Soto, Grisham & Verdugo plus the deals to avoid arbitration have 2024 budget of $304 mil-how much of that is going to be wasted by players who don't perform to expectations? That won't factor into a luxury tax of $48 mil+, The worst part is we still have a weak rotation - the other dependable starter is Cole - Rodon & Cortez are coming off injuries so who knows what that will give us; Schmidt is still developing as a starter; Stroman is an unknown factor (will he pitch decently or create chaos in the clubhouse). Most of the pitchers who would be called up to fill in spots throughout the year were used in those trades for Soto & Verdugo.
Though the budget is high, it doesn't sound like the right pieces were brought in to help really help Cole & Judge reach for the gold in their peak seasons. We'll do our ranting & raving over poor play & losses but remain loyal to the brand we grew up loving. I'm not thrilled with the coaching staff brought in and Boone will have to play the hand he has been dealt. We know Cashman won't go anywhere because Hal has so much respect for his Dad - Cashman was a disciple under the Steinbrenner/Watson/Michael era. Considering that was the early 90s maybe Cashman has gone stale and is listening to the inept analytic crew he hires.
Just rambling thoughts on a boring day as I watch the wind blowing up a storm.
