the incident might not have allowed time to negotiate a trade for a starter - and from personal experience you don't always know a person has an alcohol problem and until the individual acknowledges it no one can help them. Lived through it with an ex but never would have gotten to the altar IF they people who I trusted & knew before hand at least mentioned it to me including my mother.
