Until the PC is announced, we've settled down to having the highest paid pitcher in MLB for 9 years with the 5-yr opt out and full no trade clause. Expectations are high - but just for now let's consider the future for a few minutes. He will take over the 'ace' role and perhaps become a clubhouse leader as he settles into his new teammates. Just because he will be earning a mil per start does not mean he will not need a period of adjustment nor will every start be perfect or near perfect - he's a person not a deity. So give him a chance - Paxton took the first half of the season before he relaxed & pitched the way we anticipated.
Now for the long-range: come next season Tanaka & Paxton could become FAs that opens 2 starting positions in the rotation - and I expect Hal & Cash to rein in a little on spending as they attempt to bring the budget down in luxury tax penalties. Within a couple years, Judge, Sanchez, Torres will be FA candidates - glad that Severino signed his 7-year extension last spring.This is the thread to vent any questions/concerns or dissatsifaction with the 9 year $324 mi9llion dollar Baby (sorry but at 74 a 29 year old stud is a baby to me). Then we settle in and enjoy the excitement of the 2020 Yankees without calling for Cash's head/the Steins to sell the team or a trade of Cole.
