Yankee Iconic Pitcher/Coach Dies

A sad day in Yankee Universe with the passing of Mel Stottlemyre on Sunday. Mel had been battling multiple myeloma since 1999 but succumbed to join the Yankee family in the sky Sunday. I was lucky enough to see some of Mel's first games when he arrived in pinstripes as a young pitcher and followed his major league career. He became a successful pitching coach for both the Yankees and cross-town rival Muts until retiring to his home in Seattle. One of the warmest memories was OTD 2015 - Mel received permission from his doctors to make the cross-country trip to attend. The Yankees surprised him with a plaque in Monument Park - Mel responded with a wonderful speech. My prayers and condolences to his family.
