Foot injury to Yankees star, 2 other scares occur in clincher over Red SoxAfter Bellinger led off the Yanks’ four-run fourth inning with a double, he hurt his left foot sliding feet-first following a hit to left field by Amed RosarioBellinger got up and hobbled his way back to the Yankees’ dugout. He finished out the game, but it looked like he wasn’t right running out a grounder to first base in the seventh inning or after the game while everyone was spraying champagne and brew.
“I’m OK,” Bellinger said. “I’ll be ready to roll.”
Game 1 of the Yankees-Blue Jays series is Saturday in Toronto.
The Yankees had two other brief injury scares while finishing off Boston.
After the Yankees had scored four runs, reliever Justin Slater’s first pitch was a way-inside, 95-mph fastball that drilled Judge in the left forearm.Judge grimaced in pain, then took a few steps toward the mound before stopping where the batter’s box ends. Instead of charging Slaten, he headed to first base while staring down the pitcher for a couple of seconds.
The Yankees lucked out. Their indispensable superstar wasn’t hurt.
The Yankees had another scare in the eighth. With rookie phenom Cam Schlittler just two outs away from completing his eight shutout innings, Jarren Duren hit a foul popup to the left side.
Yanks third baseman Ryan McMahon, who replaced Rosario for defense in the sixth, chased after it with a sprint until slowing up just before reaching the Red Sox dugout. He made a great catch, but his momentum flipped him headfirst over the dugout rail and amongst Red Sox players.[
