1. Acquiring an anemic hitting Josh Donaldson whose days as a productive hitter had passed him by several years ago.
2. A few years ago signing Hicks to a ridiculous 7 year contract which they are now stuck with because no one wants him at that price.
3. Acquiring Jameson Taillon who routinely gave up more runs than the lack of hitting from more than a few players could overcome.
4. Failing over a number of years to obtain more LH bats to negate their opponents consistent advantage with pitching.
5, Hiding behind the veil of fiscal responsibility. Fiscal responsibility doesn't beat the Astros in the ALCS or whomever before that.
