Starting Rotation 2021

October 16, 2020 10:26AM
During the upcoming brass meetings starting pitching will be a big issue. Gerrit Cole and Jordy Montgomery are two (locked in baring injuries) with Luis Severino possible returning in June or July from TJ surgery. Three of the 2020 starters are eligible for FA: Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton and J Happ.
Masa is still is solid pitcher though falling short this post season. If he decides to stay in the States for a couple of seasons, the Yankees could offer him a contract for a middle or backend starter not an Ace.
Paxton is recovering from injury -he might have been available for the WS if the Yankees made it. He was ramping up before injuries sidetracked his season. Do the Yankees make an offer?
IMO Happ has attituded his way out of pinstripes in two PC's in the last weeks of the season.
The Yankees have Deivi Garcia, Clark Schmidt and Michael King who had MLB experience during the shortened 2020 season. Deivi showed tenacity under fire and should be given a chance. Schmidt & King could possibly use more seasoning IF there is a minor league season in 2021.
Should the Yankees re-sign Paxton or see who might be available in FA. This could be an interesting off season - all teams sustained losses with no fans in the stands. Will this lead to better trades or a viable FA market? Will contracts come back towards Earth?
A lot to contemplate but that's what makes it fun. Any thoughts?
